Going for spin at home in a Smile Smart System Mustang Powerchair. The fantastic Freddy is controlling his SSS Powerchair using just one head switch. Independence is something that many of our users have limited access to, but thanks to the vision of clinical experts in sourcing great AT solutions and the perennial dedication of parents like Freddy’s mother Sonia, answers can be found.

Super videos like this one are a great way for us to find out how our users are getting on. They also give us a real boost, as we get to see the guys having fun, which is what exactly what the system was designed for and is great to see!

Freddy is using temporary tracking in this video as opposed to the tracking tape that is use for permanent indoor spaces. Both versions work well for different reasons. The temporary tracking comes in 2 metre strips of rubber tape that can be put down, moved and quickly adjusted, which is useful for outdoor spaces, trial areas, temporary rented accommodation or floors which are listed as historically protected. Permanent tape however is placed directly onto the floor and is perfect for schools and homes where users can practice during the normal daily routine. We actively encourage the frequent casual use of powerchairs around the home (in addition to focused skills sessions) as we believe that the chairs and their input devices need to be used as much as possible as part of daily physical activity. The motivation to reach the TV to watch your favourite programme, or finding your way to the kitchen for a snack, can be one of the greatest incentives you can have (certainly is for us here!).

So thank you again Freddy and Sonia for sharing this video, it is fantastic to see you on track for a fun-packed future in your new home!
